Priced at over $28,000, the latest masterpiece from high-end model manufacturer Amalgam features a miniature model of the vintage 1935 race car, driven by Jean-Pierre Wimille in the Belgium Grand Prix.

Amalgam, whose focus is on creating classic race car models, also presented a 1:8 scale version of Wimille himself. To make this possible, the company collaborated with a studio in Italy.

The company based the 1:8 scale model on scans of the Type 59 with chassis number 59122, currently owned by fashion magnate Ralph Lauren. According to Amalgam, the development process took 5,000 hours.

The price is justified by the rarity of the model. Amalgam is building only five of them, making it rarer than the full-size race car it represents. Three have already been sold, and the remaining two will be made to order.
